The Stena Line (UK) Group is proposing to develop and operate a new port facility at Old House Point, ten kilometres north of Stranraer on the eastern side of Loch Ryan. Stena Line will move its operations and ferry service from its present location in Stranraer to the new port facility once construction of the new port has been completed.
Relocating Stena Line’s Loch Ryan ferry services to Old House Point will allow the construction of a new port facility more suited to the needs and demands of travellers today. In addition, journey times and fuel requirements can be cut. The Stena Line move to a new port in Loch Ryan will also allow the development of the waterfront at Stranraer that will contribute significantly to the local economy.
In order to secure the necessary permissions to develop the new port, Stena Line Ports (Loch Ryan) Limited (the Company) has applied to the Scottish Government for a Harbour Empowerment Order (HEO) under section 16 of the Harbours Act 1964 (as amended). An Environmental Statement (ES) accompanied the application for the HEO, reporting the findings of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the scheme. The HEO application and supporting ES were submitted to the Scottish Ministers on the 15th January 2009.
An Environmental Addendum Report (including an annex containing technical marine site investigation reports) which contains further environmental information was supplied by the Company to the Scottish Ministers on 14 September 2009.
